Pilates do help people with low back pain. This can be said with the highest level of confidence based on years of high level randomized control trials, Fernandez-rodriguez et al., 2022
Pilates feature plank holds and stretches of the low back and hips and these reduce pain and disability in people with long term low back pain. These exercises are usually done in a class form but can just as easily be performed individually with a little instruction to get you started.
Often people think the “reformer” (wooden platform with spring loaded sections) is necessary for pilates but that is not the case. The beauty of this type of exercise is all people can do it in some form and no equipment is necessary.
To see if you are a suitable candidate for a pilates based program you should consult with your physical therapist. Here at PT38 Physical Therapy we can provide you with an evaluation and program to suit you as an individual to get the most benefit.
